You can just feel over the top of the hay to find lumps.

After pulling back the hay, we find potatoes. Its really more like sifting as the hay has settled. |

I call this picture the Haul. Its worth a couple a good meals. NO WORK, NO BUGS, EASY TO PLANT AND HARVEST |
